The Fell We Climb – An Inspirational And Powerful Anti-racist Project

How I found out about this anti-racist project

In November 2021 while scrolling my Instagram feed looking for quality content and inspiration, I came across a trailer that was part of an anti-racist project. It was the trailer for a short film by Anti-Racist Cumbria and +3K Animation studios. The trailer impressed me so much with its subject matter and quality that I got in touch with Lou Kneath one of the lead animators and offered to help get the word out about the film if ever needed.

At that point I had no idea that the film was still in it’s inception and didn’t even have the funds to be completed. However, upon finding this out and knowing how important the message of this film was I had to at help in any way I could.

What is ‘The Fell We Climb‘?

Animated Futures Workshops

The Fell We Climb is an animated short film inspired by the real life experiences of black and brown youngsters growing up in Cumbria. As part of Animated Futures, the group engaged in workshops organised by Anti-Racist Cumbria to learn about animation and explore culture and identity. What has come out of that is nothing short of amazing. The kids involved have shown how passionate they are about the problem of racism and how clear their vision for change is.

What’s the story about?

Packed with a powerful message, this short film has already had such an incredible impact on everyone involved in the process so far. We follow Hamira, a young Cumbrian girl as she navigates her way through racism in its many forms and what inspires her to share her story and how she strives for positive change. We hope this film will not only inspire young people across the world to celebrate their differences but motivate even the coldest of hearts to become actively anti-racist.

What do I hope this Anti-Racist Project will achieve?

My hope for this film is for it to be used by organisations all over the UK and in schools as a resource to start conversation. The story is told from the point of view of the youth of today, our future leaders. They know that the world needs to change and ultimately they will be the ones to do it, but that process starts here with projects like this. Projects that raise awareness and make people stop and think. I want people to stop and think, I want people to stand up for whats right, I want a better future for our kids.

How can you help us finish this film?

Animations are expensive to make. Even though we have raised an incredible £30,000 which has got us to this stage, we need to raise a further £30,000 which will allow us to hire a dream team of industry animators and designers to take the film to the next level. Then we can fully animate it to the best possible standard and present it to the world. This is where you come in. We have launched ‘The Fell We Climb’ Crowdfunder’ to raise the remaining funds.

If you are able to donate, we have some incredible rewards packages that have been put together by the talented team, to thank you for your support. If you cannot support financially you can support by spreading the word. Share this post with your friends family and colleagues. The more people that know about it the more chance we have of reaching our target.

Thanks Nxx
