RockReef Review – One of the best things to do in Bournemouth
Last week was Bournemouth’s annual airshow, and as it’s been 4 years since my last visit, I thought I’d take the kids down for the day out. Now while trying to find things to do in Bournemouth I stumbled across an indoor activity center and boy am I glad I did. RockReef is an all year, all weather attraction located at the end of Bournemouth Pier. It includes numerous climbing walls, a verticle drop slide, a leap of faith challenge, a high line aerial obstacle course, the Pier Cave and the Pierzip.
Which activities did we do?
The short answer is everything! And we had a ball doing it. We started with the climbing walls and with so many to choose from there was something for all ages and abilities. As you can see in the video below, my kids made mince meat of some of the easier walls. But not to worry there is plenty on offer to give even the bravest pause for thought. The speed wall was lots of fun and Yes! I was beaten by a 10yr old but he does gymnastics 5 times a week so I’m taking my result as a positive.
After the Climbing
Next was the High Line obstacle course and the Pier Cave, both of which the kids went round on their own. So for less active parents, don’t worry about having to take part. Although I’m still bummed I wasn’t small enough to go check out the caves. The kids had a great time on both of these and would have gladly spent more time. But we were on a mission to try everything and next up was the leap of faith and the drop slide. These really got pulses racing and the adrenaline pumping. They aren’t for the faint hearted so you better bring your big boy pants if you want to go on these. Even I almost bottled the drop slide.
The Final Activity
Last but not least we went on the Pierzip. The world’s first Pier to shore zip wire boasting 2 x 250m tracks. This was the icing on the cake and my 2 both wanted to do it again. If you’ve ever done a zip wire before you’ll know the exhilarating feeling of flying down a wire at up to 30mph. There’s nothing like it.
The Verdict
RockReef is definitely one to check out if you are looking for things to do in Bournemouth. If you have active children they will thoroughly enjoy it. The only complaint might be that they want to stay longer than their session allows. Price wise I must warn you it’s not the cheapest day out. For a family of 4 starting price is £48 which is not bad, but with certain activities an added cost, things can climb. (No pun intented). That said, there are cheaper options if adults do not want to get involved. Plus there are lots of online deals so make sure you plan ahead to get the best rates. Or you might want to enter my competition to win a family ticket to RockReef. Keep reading for more details.
