In July Nigel presented an 8-part series for The Foundation. As a result Citv’s Skillicious was born. Working alongside ex Blue Peter Presenter Zoe Salmon, the show to introduced children to new activities and encouraged them to try new skills. It was a uniquely styled magazine programme and was shot both on location and in front of a studio audience. From Dancing to BMXing, from Magic to Martial Arts the show brought experts from a range of fields to demonstrate their amazing skills.
What did Nigel have to do?
Being a presenter on the show Nigel interviewed guests, set challenges, introduced new skills and lead demonstrations. One of the most noteworthy moments of the series was shooting on location at Chessington World of Adventures with Steven Frayne aka DYNAMO. The young magician who 2 years later(2011) became a household name. In a challenge set by DYNAMO, 3 kids learnt magic tricks. After working on their tricks, they had to perform them on the unsuspecting public. It was no easy feat and the results can be seen in the video below.
Another highlight of the series was beatboxer THePetebox. Who performed in the studio. The Radio 1 Beatbox Champion 2005 demonstrated his skills using a loop pedal to layer the sounds. In addition he taught the studio audience how they could beatbox too. This was lots of fun and can also be seen in the video below.
In conclusion Citv’s Skillicious was a great program for Nigel as it was well suited to his presenting style. Everyone who worked on the show pulled out all the stops because they believed in it, making it a fantastic production to be part of. Consequently this was rewarded with a second series shot in 2010.
